Soil remediation at Boehringer Ingelheim

DISPOSAL OF CONTAMINATED SOIL IN THE 'AUF DEM SAND' PROJECT AT THE SITE IN INGELHEIM BEGAN IN JANUARY 2018. THIS INITIALLY INVOLVED TAKING THE CONTAMINED SOILS IN SEALED CONTAINERS PLACED ON TRUCKS FROM THE REMEDIATION AREA TO THE COMPANY'S RAIL TERMINUS, FROM WHERE IT WAS LOADED ON DEDICATED TRAINS (40 CONTAINERS/TRAIN) FOR TRANSPORT.

Intermodal transport with road and rail sections is organised to the transhipment point in Leipzig-Wahren, where the containers are again loaded on to trucks for the journey to their final destination in Deutzen. Around 40,00 tons of soil with contaminants from the former plant protection factory will be taken in this way to our thermal treatment facility in Deutzen by September 2018. Then it will be treated in our newly assembled rotary kiln until April 2018. Once thermal treatment is complete, the soils will be brought for final disposal at suitable landfills.
